Westminster Hills Open Space
Dog Off-Leash Natural Area
The Guardians are a Grassroots Pack of Pawsome People
We are actively working with the City of Westminster's Parks, Recreation & Libraries and the community to
- preserve all 470 acres of off-leash access
- protect Open Space natural environment
- promote responsible dog ownership & safety
Like you, we love the wide open space, mountain vistas and multitude of trails begging all of us to roam free.
Our work with park management is ongoing. Please lend your time and talent to our cause. Volunteer for Committees and Events. Become part of the solution!
VOLUNTEER with the Guardians
Big Beautiful Bridge (Not)
Construction of the Greenway Trail Bridge Crossing at Indiana Street into Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge continues despite strong objections from surrounding communities and environmental safety organizations.
Westminster took a courageous stand last September and withdrew from the Greenway Crossings Agreement. With this decision they effectively acknowledged the risks of recreating at Rocky Flats, and set a precedent supporting public health and safety.
At the June 23rd City Council meeting, the Guardians joined the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center, and Physicians for Social Responsibility, to advocate for the strongest warning language, and the international symbol for radiation, to be included on signage at the site. Thank you City Council for voting to accept the recommendation.
Environmental Overview of WHOS
The Guardians are just as passionate about sustainability and responsible land management as we are about our four-legged friends! We feel strongly that we have a duty to preserve this treasured resource for generations to come.
