Westminster Hills Open Space
Dog Off-Leash Natural Area

The Guardians are a Grassroots Pack of Pawsome People

We are actively working with the City of Westminster's Parks, Recreation & Libraries and the community to

  • preserve all 470 acres of off-leash access
  • protect Open Space natural environment
  • promote responsible dog ownership & safety

Like you, we love the wide open space, mountain vistas and multitude of trails begging all of us to roam free.

Our work with park management is ongoing. Please lend your time and talent to our cause. Volunteer for Committees and Events. Become part of the solution!

VOLUNTEER with the Guardians

Story in Westminster Window

The Guardians asked City Council to reroute one mile of the Greenway Trail around the perimeter of the Westminster Hills Open Space to protect the area from possible soil contamination from traffic traveling east from the former Rocky Flats  nuclear weapons plant, over the Indiana Street Bridge, into the park.

In addition to community safety, rerouting the trail would reduce user conflicts between the two main user groups: pedestrians with off-leash dogs and cyclists.
